When you think of a hot weekend in Brisbane, it’s hard to name a more iconic duo to beat the heat than a nice gelato and a laugh with good friends – after all, what is better than relaxing and having dessert with your best mates? We’ve done the legwork for you in finding a fresh gelato joint you can chill at this weekend.
Enter La Macelleria.
If the name is a bit of a tongue twister for you, that’s because this gelato venue is a true Italian affair. Owner Matteo Zini first opened La Macelleria in Bologna, Italy – arguably one of the most famous go-to places for real, quality gelato. Since then he has brought his skills as a gelato maestro to the stylish new King Street precinct in Bowen Hills (at the Brisbane Showgrounds) for a Brisbane La Macelleria experience.
La Macelleria flew under the radar for a quiet opening this past Monday, leaving the big launch for this weekend, from the 16th to the 17th of March.
For Saturday the 16th, it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3 all day – $1 gelato scoops from 4-6pm, $2 coffees from 12-2pm, and $3 gelato shakes from 6-8pm.
And in a twist on St. Patrick’s Day spirit this Sunday the 17th of March, La Macelleria will be serving up a special ‘beermisu’ all day, which is exactly what it sounds like – a beer-based take on the classic Italian dessert, tiramisu.
If you weren’t already sold, La Macelleria is also rolling out exclusive flavours—including ruby chocolate, dairy-free earl grey and yuzu sorbet, and vegan oat and chai gelato—with a new special flavour to try every week.
So mark your calendars, call your friends, and mentally prepare yourself for this decadent dessert experience – you’ll be kicking yourself if you miss it!
La Macelleria is open 12pm-10pm from Sunday to Thursday, and 12pm-11pm on Friday and Saturday.
